To kick off the season, the QMS team has assembled a list of our go-to fall recommendations: movies, books, cocktails, and some of our favorite layers for cooler days ahead.

The Boulevardier

As a general rule, I avoid whiskey in the warmer months, but when that cool fall air hits, I get the itch to switch up my cocktail rotation. I love most variations on the Negroni, and the Boulevardier hits the right note for the slide from summer into fall:

1 part Campari

1 part Sweet Vermouth

1 part rye whiskey or bourbon

(Personally, I go with a bourbon here, and might add an extra glug).

Serve on the rocks and garnish with an orange peel. Best consumed in a leather armchair.

Swordfish in Brown Waxed Canvas

I have this hanging on the coat hook next to my front door, and it is quickly becoming my favorite hat we've made. The handsome shade of brown just feels right for my fallish pursuits around the city. And the waxed canvas longbill provides excellent protection whether it's drizzling or the sun is shining.

Harriman State Park

One of my favorite parks near NYC. Only a 50 minute drive from the QMS Flagship store, there really is no easier way to get to some autumnal peace than a quick trip to Harriman State Park. With hikes and views that can compete with anything 2-3 times as far from the city, its a wonder why Harriman has not been absolutely inundated with daytrippers on the weekend yet. Enjoy it while it lasts, the days are getting shorter faster than usual this year!

The Breton Stripe Boatneck Tee

Before you need to break out the waffle shirts and long johns, our Breton Stripe Boatneck tee is the perfect layering piece for fall. I am going to be wearing a few different colors under my chambrays and oxfords to get me through the light jacket season. I think this Acorn one came out particularly nice and will go with any color of corduroy shirt when it gets a little colder. For the next few weeks I think I am going to rock it on its own.

Dress Your Family In Corduroy and Denim by David Sedaris

As the weather cools and the days grey, having a good book in your back pocket always helps ease the transition away from summer. I like to start with something light , easy to get absorbed into and quick to read. David Sedaris has plenty to deliver on those fronts, but a personal favorite from his collection isDress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim.Like all his work, it is a collection of short stories from his life that are equally hilarious as they are bizarre and profoundly human. Start with this one and I guarantee you’ll have read four more but the time Christmas rolls around.

Quaker Crewneck Sweater

Those first few weeks of Fall are always a challenge to dress for; the mornings are cold, by mid-day you’re in a t-shirt, then by sunset you wished you’d packed a jacket. The Quaker Crewneck Sweater solves this conundrum beautifully. With a 100% cotton body that breathes but still keeps you warm, and elegant details like ribbed cuffs and hem, and raglan sleeves, you won’t need to take this on and off during those first "hot or cold" Fall days.

Rivers and Tides: Andy Goldsworthy Working with Time

If you're in the mood for inspiration, I’d recommend Rivers and Tides: Andy Goldsworthy Working with Time. This documentary follows artist Andy Goldsworthy as he creates stunning natural sculptures that interact with the changing seasons. It’s a calming, meditative watch—perfect for cozy fall evenings when you want to slow down and reconnect with nature.

Merino Roll Neck Sweater

When it's time to break out those cozy layers, I recommend our new Merino Roll Neck Sweater. Made from Merino wool—nature’s original performance fabric—it’s temperature-regulating, super soft, and durable enough for whatever fall throws at you. With a subtle nod to our nautical roots and a timeless roll neck, it’s as practical as it is stylish.

Let My People Go Surfing by Yvon Chouinard

A very inspiring and engaging read about the creation of the Patagonia clothing brand. I consider Yvon Chouinard one of the most important business leaders of my lifetime. And it's amazing to know he had no desire to go into business yet created one of the most interesting and important businesses of our times.

MacArthur Shirt in Olive Twill

A must-have work shirt with two secure buttoned chest pockets.  The pockets are great for storing your wallet, passport, or phone.  Good for travel too – pick pocketers may try you but with no luck!
