The Breton stripe has been a sea-faring classic for hundreds of years, ever since 1800s French sailors hailing from Brittany (hence the name) made the solid stripe their unofficial uniform.
Legend says the thick stripes make you easier to spot in an nautical emergency – we happen think they look great too. The likes of Brigitte Bardot and Patti Smith seem to agree.
