Memorial Day is here – the unofficial start of summertime shenanigans. To kick off the season, the QMS team has assembled a list of our go-to summer recommendations: albums, eateries, destinations, poolside garb, and more.

Astoria Seafood

Not far from our Greenpoint shop up in Astoria, Queens is arguably the greatest no-nonsense seafood spot in the city. Its the type of joint where you pick your fish straight off a bed of ice, and let the clerk know how you want it cooked. There's nothing quite like grabbing a handful of raw scallops through a plastic bag, slapping them down on the counter and asking for a nice sear. A couple of tips for your fish-filled endeavor – don't skip the Greek salad, sit outside if you can, and bring your own chilled bottle of wine. Thank me later.

Homespun Fisherman's Sweater in Grey Marl/Natural

I've been wearing the Fisherman's Sweater since we introduced it back in 2019. This spring, we updated it in this lighter weight textured yarn that I've been living in all season. On chilly mornings and cool evenings it's a reliable layer to pop on with my Ventura shorts or blue jeans. If the sun decides to pop out mid-day, I'll drape it over my shoulders like a real prep – sue me!

Untermyer Gardens

Just a short drive or Metro North trip away, Untermyer Gardens is one of the most beautiful places around the city. The passion with which this historical garden conservancy is maintained is second to none in the Northeast. With stunning views of the Hudson and amazing architecture, this should be an essential visit for anyone in the area every year, especially around this time!

CPO Shirt Jacket in Dark Wash Indigo Loopback Terry

I am going to be throwing our indigo terry CPO jacket on as my nighttime sweatshirt all summer. It has all the comfort of my favorite zip hoodies, but a whole lot more style. The chambray detailing and patch pockets turned out so great on these limited edition CPOs.

Tinned Fish and Saltines

I’ve found that a lot of the time, the best things are the simplest and in the case of the perfect summer snack, it’s just that. Tinned sardines and some ol’ fashioned saltines. A paring made for a day at the park or beach, dinner party or on the go, nothing reminds me of the start of summer like cracking open a tin of salty sardines and sleeve of saltines. The market for tinned fish has gotten pretty expansive the last few years, but I always go for the classic, Ortiz, it never disappoints.

Garment Dyed Linen Shirt in Coastal Blue

Most of my linen shirts are hand-me-downs from my dad or ones I’ve picked up second hand when I couldn’t bear the heat in a classic button down any longer. The result being a lot of oversized or over worn shirts that created an annoying vacancy in my summer shirting selection that I could never fill, until now. In the same cut as our best selling garment-dyed Oxford shirt, but made in super soft garment-dyed linen, I finally have a shirt that fits me and the warmer weather perfectly. My favorite is the Coastal Blue, but I had to get the Classic White too because, well, it’s a classic.

Azymuth - Telecommunication

When I want something funky but low-key, I love to throw on Azymuth’s 1982 album Telecommunication. The Brazilian group blends jazz fusion, samba, boogie, and spaced-out synths into a sound that’s somehow both laid-back and razor-sharp. It’s got that slick, early-'80s production and breezy confidence that makes even the weirdest chord changes feel effortless.

Loafer Jacket in Navy Terrycloth

No summer weekend is complete without my Terrycloth Loafer Jacket. It’s got the laid-back ease of a beach towel but tailored just enough to wear straight from the pool to dinner. Somewhere between a blazer and a robe, it walks that perfect line between polished and relaxed—no undershirt, no problem.
